From the Sioux County Index (Hull), January 18, 1929:

VAN DER PLAATS DIES

L. VanderPlaats died at the Holland Home at Sheldon, Saturday, January 5th, at the age of 85 years and about 5 months, his birthday being on August 2. Mr. VanderPlaats had been troubled with asthma and caught a severe cold shortly before his death. He went from Hull to the Holland Home on October 26th, 1927.

Funeral services were held last week Wednesday at the Home and in the Christian Reformed church at Hull, burial being made in Hope Cemetery at Hull.

His death certificate has Louis Van der Plaats, widowed; born Aug 2, 1833 in the Netherlands [but it states his age as 85, which would make him born in 1843]; parents Gerrit Van der Plaats and Jennie Dykstra; resident of the United States 36 years and of Sheldon 1 year 4 months; informant Dirk Van der Plaats (no relationship given); died in the Holland Home for the Aged, Sheldon, at 4:40 a.m. January 5, 1929; cause, bronchitis and chronic myocarditis; buried at Hull.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has an L. G. Vander Plaats, buried in Hope Cemetery, Hull, no birth/death dates.

FindaGrave.com has Lieuwe G. Van der Plaats, born 2 Aug 1843, died 5 Jan 1929, buried in Hope Cemetery. No family information is given.

The Netherlands Civil Marriage Index on wiewaswie.nl has Lieuwe Gerrits van der Plaats, age 23, son of Gerrit Lieuwes van der Plaats and Jeltje Jelles Dijkstra, marrying Trijntje Jelles van der Schaaf, age 21, on May 15, 1867 in Menaldumadeel, Friesland.
