Mildred Moen found peace and joy in her passing on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018. She was born in Hawarden on February 16, 1921, the only child of Minnie (Lind) and Edward Dealy. Mildred (Milly) had a special place in her heart for her grandparents, Kate and J.O. Lind, who raised her since she lost her parents at the age of 12. She was an exceptional student in the Hawarden Schools, with great promise in literary and artistic studies. As a girl she worked in her Grandmother's Ladies Ready-To-Wear Shop, demonstrating a talent for design and creativity.

Milly married young and raised ten children in her family home in Hawarden. They all share wonderful memories of growing up in youthful freedom until the noon and 6 o'clock whistles, when the family gathered for meals. She was also the owner/operator of Shamrock Ceramics, fulfilling the prophecy of her early years in her beautiful pieces and prize-winning ceramics. Hundreds of children and adults learned the enjoyment of their own creativity in her classes on technique, color, design, and patience.

Dancing and card playing were spare-time activities until she retired and spent winters in McAllen, Texas. During those wonderful months, she and husband Claire could sometimes find three different dances a day, and enjoyed many new friends and like-minded "Winter Texans." She suffered a few health set-backs over time, allowing her to satisfy her insatiable appetite for reading and to become a cross-word puzzle aficionado.

Milly is survived by daughters, Linda Doty (Frank Conklin), Mary Frey (Bill Wieland), Alice (Don) Nelson, and Monica Dykstra Heuer (Larry Foy); sons, John (Hiromi) Dykstra, Mark Dykstra, and Dennis Dykstra; grandchildren, Scott Doty, Randy Doty, Don Doty, Matt Frey, Bridget Morris, Lorelei Skillman, Mitch Lenzen, Silvia Dykstra, Steven Dykstra, Ben Dykstra Choutka, Christy Dykstra Choutka , Kimberly Cooper Nichols, Katie Cooper-Boyes, Michael Schreiber, Dawn Dykstra, Jamie Stodola, Kassie Dykstra, Eric Heuer and Chris Heuer. She has 31 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Milly was predeceased by her parents; husband, Claire Moen; sons, Joe Dykstra and Mike Dykstra; daughter, Anny Schreiber; sons-in-law, Charles Doty and Paul Schreiber; and the fathers of her children, Roger Hodgson, Thomas Coletta, and George Dykstra. She recently lost a very dear friend, Dennis Clifford.

The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family with arrangements and a celebration of Milly's life will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
