AGED RESIDENT PASSES AWAY SATURDAY NOON

Henry Vande Vegte, Sr., passed away at his home in Rock Valley last Saturday at 12 o’clock, his death being due to the natural decline of his advanced age. Mr. Vande Vegte had attained the age of ninety-one years, three months and twenty-two days. He had lived in Sioux County for fifty years.

He was born in Holland August 25, 1841, where he spent his early life and grew to manhood. He was united in marriage in the Netherlands sixty-two years ago with Heintje Koele. Twelve years later they came to this country, locating first at Hospers, where they lived eight years and then moved to the Rock Valley vicinity and located on a farm southwest of town. Mr. Vande Vegte with the help of his good wife farmed this place successfully for a number of years. Twenty-six years ago they retired from the farm and moved to Rock Valley. Mrs. Vande Vegte passed away at her home in Rock Valley five years ago.

Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Vande Vegte, three of whom died in infancy, and one, Nick, died ten years ago. The children living are Peter, Albert, Richard and Henry of Rock Valley, and Mrs. Martin Gravenhof, Leroy, Minn., and Mrs. Wm. Meenderink of Rock Valley. There are also forty grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Old Reformed church in Rock Valley, and the remains taken to Valley View Cemetery.

His death certificate adds his parents’ names, Peter Van De Vegte and Hendrickie; and his cause of death: “Chronic Myocarditis, senility – Not seen until after death. No evidence of any illness except senility and myocarditis.”
