Death of Mrs. H. Vander Vegte

Mrs. H. Vander Vegte passed away Saturday morning aged seventy-nine years, two months and thirteen days.

The subject of this sketch was born in Holland October 11, 1848, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to H. Vander Vegte fifty seven years ago. A few years later the family came to this country where they have lived for the past forty-five years. Mrs. Vander Vegte was the mother of eleven children, six of whom are living. They are Albert, Peter, Richard, Henry, Mrs. W. Meendering and Mrs. Anna Grevenhof all of whom reside in this vicinity except Mrs. Grevenhof. She also leaves her aged husband, forty grandchildren and one great grand child.

Mrs. Vander Vegte was a woman who was highly respected by all who knew her, and many friends of the bereaved family extend sincere sympathy to them in their time of sorrow.

Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 and at 2:00 o’clock at the First Reformed Church Wednesday afternoon, and the remains were taken to Valley View Cemetery.

The 1925 Iowa state census for Rock Valley has Anne or Annie Vander Vegte, age 76, wife of Henry Vander Vegte (age 85); born in the Netherlands, 43 years in the U.S. and Iowa. Both the handwriting and the census image are of poor quality, but her father looks like Alout [Albert?] Reitmon and mother Alice Kaal.

Her death certificate has Heintje Van De Vegte, born Oct. 11, 1848 in Holland; father Klaus Koele, mother Agbertje Rietma; informant Henry Van De Vegte; died at 7 p.m. December 24, 1927; cause, pericarditis[?], duration 10 days; contributory cause, bronchial asthma, duration 40 years.

A marriage record on WieWasWie.nl is for Hendrik van der Vegte, age 29, farmer, parents Peter van der Vegte and Hendrika van der Kolk; and Heintje Koele, age 22, parents Klaas Koele, farmer, and Egbertjen Hendriks Rietman; married 20 April 1871.
