MYRA DAHL PASSED AWAY

Miss Myra Dahl passed away at her home in Rock Valley Friday December 16. Her death came as a great surprise to her many friends who did not know that her condition was so serious. She was a young lady who was greatly admired by all who knew her and her untimely death is very much regretted.

Miss Dahl was born at Rushford, Minn., March 6, 1898 and had attained the age of twenty-nine years, nine months and ten days. Part of her life was spent in Mason City, Iowa, shere she attended the high school. After her parents moved to Rock Valley she attended the Rock Valley high school and completed the high school course here. She also attended George Washington University and the Washington College of Music and was a talented and accomplished young woman, who made many friends wherever she was known.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church in Rock Valley, Monday afternoon.

Her mother preceded her in death nine years ago. She leaves her father L. H. Dahl, two sisters, Anna and Bertha, and five brothers, Lewis, Henry, Anton, Norman and Selmer, and a multitude of friends who extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their great sorrow.

From the Alton Democrat, December 23, 1927, Rock Valley news:

Died at Youthful Age

Miss Myra Dahl passed away after an illness of very brief duration, Dec. 16, 1927. Deceased was a daughter of Bertha and Lars Dahl, born at Rushmore, Minn., on March 6, 1898 and had attained the youthful age of 29 years, 9 months and 10 days at the time of her passing. Her mother preceded her in death by about eight years.

Myra moved here with her parents during the fall of 1915 and graduated as a member of the class of 1917 from the Rock Valley high school. After completing her course here she attended George Washington university and the Washington school of music. She was confirmed in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church in Mason City April 12, 1914 under the leadership of Rev. G. G. Belsheim. So her faith remained in God and His son Jesus Christ until at last He said “Enough, come up higher.”

She leaves to mourn her father, Lars H. Dahl and two sisters, Anna and Bertha and 5 brothers, Lewis, Henry, Anton, Norman and Selmer, besides a multitude of friends. Her bright happy smile has gone to the grave but death cannot rob us of that beautiful fellowship she made us feel while she was here with us. She was ready to meet her Savior face to face and some day we hope to meet in the home over there.

Funeral services were held first at the home and then at the M. E. church on Monday afternoon and interment made in the Valley View cemetery. The beautiful floral tokens which decked the casket showed in what esteem she was held. Rev. Lyman F. Fucht, pastor of the Methodist church, conducted the funeral services, paying high tribute to our beloved friend.

A brief notice of her death was also published in the Sioux County Index (Dec. 16), noting that her brother Henry and his wife, Hull residents, attended her funeral.

Her death certificate gives her occupation as housekeeper; her parents, Lars H. Dahl and Bertha Opheim, both born in Norway; cause of death, pulmonary tuberculosis, duration several years.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index spells her forename Maria. FindaGrave.com has her as Maria “Myra” Dahl, with a photo of her headstone showing her as Maria.
