SAD DEATH OF MRS. JOSEPH LECHTENBERG--LONG SUFFERING ENDED BY GRIM REAPER ON OCTOBER 12TH--FUNERAL HELD MONDAY--WAS BORN ATALTON 32 YEARS AGO--YOUNG COUPLE FARMED IN SOUTH DAKOTA

Mrs. Joseph Lechtenberg (Clara Ramm) passed away Thursday of last week at St. Bernard’s Hospital in Council Bluffs after an illness which had extended over many months, the end being caused by cerebral hemorrhages. News of her death caused a shadow to fall for a time over the spirits of her many friends in this part of the county where she was held in the highest affection and esteem.

Mrs. Lechtenberg was born at Alton on June 23, 1890. The family lived in North Alton on the section line about a quarter of a mile north of St. Mary’s Church, the house of which burned several years ago. The property is now part of the golfing grounds. She is the daughter of Mrs. C. Hamm of Stuart, Nebraska, her father having passed on four years ago there. The family lived here until 1900. Mr. Ramm conducting an implement and harness business when they went to Petersburg, Nebraska and in 1908 to Stuart, Nebraska, where the mother still lives and where they have made many friends.

Clara Ramm was beloved by school teachers, the Sisters of St. Mary’s and by the pupils when she went to school here. She was the eldest daughter of a family of seven children and always a devout member of the Catholic Church. On June 20, 1911, she was married to Joseph Lechtenberg, the young couple going to farming at Faulkton, South Dakota and after two years at Elkton, South Dakota where they farmed four years. On account of Mrs. Lechtenberg’s poor health they then moved to Granville where they have since resided. Miss Armella, aged 9 is the only child. Clara was a member of the Mothers Sociality of St. Joseph’s Parish at Granville. Helping all she was able in the work of organization.

In the absence of the pastor, Reverend Gerlemann, the funeral services at Granville on Monday were in charge of Reverend Arnalorfer, assistant pastor, who conducted his first funeral service, preaching impressive and consoling sermon. Interment took place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Many people from other parishes were present to pay a last tribute to a friend, the church being filled. Her mother was present for the funeral, her brothers, Joseph and John, her sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth McKenzie of Colonne, South Dakota and Miss Mary, all of Stuart, Nebraska and also her cousins, John Ramm and wife of Cascade, Iowa. Her other brother, Albert and one sister, Mrs. Theresa were unable to come from Stuart for the funeral.

Deepest sympathy is felt for the bereaved husband and daughter and for the mother who also feels the loss of her daughter very keenly and for the brothers and sisters. The workings of Divine Providence are often mysteries but must always be for the best.
