From the Rock Valley Bee, December 2, 1927:

REV. G. J. CORWIN DEAD

Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Corwin received a message the first of this week advising them of the death of their uncle, Rev. G. J. Corwin, who died as the result of a fall from a roof he was painting at his home. He was taken to a hospital where he died two days later. Rev. Corwin has visited in Rock Valley on several occasions, and has preached in the Methodist church here. His wife is also sick and not expected to recover.

The paper in the town where they live in South Dakota gives the following account:

Rev. Grove J. Corwin, retired, aged 86 years, passed away Nov. 9. Mr. Corwin is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary E. Corwin, a son, Bert Corwin, of South Dakota, and four daughters, Mrs. Goldie Houser, a missionary in Mexico; Mrs. Madge Chapman, Mrs. Faye Baker and Miss Floy Corwin, of South Dakota. Services are to be held from the Winbigler Funeral home tomorrow, Nov. 10, at 2:30 p.m., the Rev. George A. Warmer, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. Interment in Fairhaven cemetery.

The California Death Index on Ancestry.com has Grove G. Corwin, age 86, died 11/8/27 in Orange County. FindaGrave.com shows Father Rev. G. J. Corwin 1841-1927, with a photo of his headstone; buried in Fairhaven Memorial Park, Santa Ana, Orange County, California; spouse Ellen Jeanette Noyes Corwin (1847-1910). This entry also lists four daughters, only two of whom – Madge I Chapman and Flo Jeanette Corwin – are the same as listed in his obituary.
