From the Sioux County Index, November 25, 1927, Boyden News:

After a long illness of months duration, Mrs. Bert Smit passed away Monday morning, November 14th, at about 6 o’clock. Death was caused from tuberculosis of the throat.

From De Volksvriend, November 17, 1927:

Mr. Gt. Van Stryland ontving Maandagmorgen bericht uit Boyden van ‘t overlijden zijner zuster Mrs. Smit, die ongeveer een jaar ziek is geweest en de laatste weken bepaald bediegerig. Mrs. Smit had den leeftijd van siechts 38 jaren bereikt en laat haar echtgenoot, een 20-jarige dochter en een 8-jarig dochtertje achter. De begrafenis heeft Woensdag dezer week plaats te Boyden.

TRANSLATION

Mr. Gt. Van Stryland received a message Monday morning from Boyden about the death of his sister Mrs. Smit, who has been ill for about a year and has been [decidedly worse?] in recent weeks. Mrs. Smit had reached the age of only 38 years and leaves behind her husband, a 20-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old daughter. The funeral will take place on Wednesday of this week in Boyden.

From the Alton Democrat, November 18, 1927, Boyden news:

Mrs. Bert Smit died early Monday morning at her home in Boyden following an illness of many weeks. Because of her poor health they had disposed of their farming equipment and moved to town a few weeks ago and were just nicely settled in their home. She leaves to mourn her going, her husband and two daughters, Janet and Elvina both at home; her mother, Mrs. Van Stryland; one brother, Gerrit Van Stryland of Orange City and three sisters, Mrs. Moermond of Boyden, Mrs. Tott of Rock Rapids and Mrs. N. D. Lowery of Sioux City, besides many other relatives. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the First Ref. church and interment in the Boyden cemetery.

The Boyden Reporter for November 17, which probably contained a local obituary, is missing.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Smit, Dora (Van Stryland), b. 1889, d. 1927, mother, Sheridan Twp Cem Boyden IA.

Her death certificate has Dora Smit, born Jan. 27, 1889 in Iowa; parents Gysbert Van Stryland and Altje Van Den Brink, both born in Holland; died at 6:15 a.m. Nov. 14, 1927, of pulmonary tuberculosis. The informant, her husband, signs himself Bert Smit.

FindaGrave.com has parents Gysbert Van Stryland (1854-1914) and Aaltje Vanden Brink Van Stryland (1859-1941); siblings Gerrit Van Stryland (1885-1961) and Bertha Van Stryland Samuelson (1897-1980); spouse Albertus “Bert” Smit (1884-1959); children Alvina Gertrude Smit (1910-1919) and Alvina Gertrude Smit DenHartog (1919-2001).
