From the Boyden Reporter, November 3, 1927:

HAROLD VAN DAM

Harold, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Van Dam, died last week Wednesday, Oct. 26th at 2 o’clock a.m. in a hospital at Des Moines, at the age of 13 years, 10 months. His death came just three hours after the death of his grandmother Mrs. Kuyper. The cause of his death was pneumonia. He is survived by his mother and father and two sisters. Funeral services were held on Thursday. The Van Dam family are quite well known here having visited here often in the A. A. Kuyper home. This community extends its sincere sympathy to the bereaved family in their sorrow.

From the Alton Democrat, November 4, 1927, Boyden news:

Harold, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Van Dam, died at a Des Moines hospital early Wednesday morning of typhoid fever, from which he had been suffering about two weeks. He was buried at Des Moines Thursday. Deceased will be remembered by many Boyden people as he lived with his grandparents about a year ago. Mrs. Van Dam is a daughter of A. A. Koyper.

His death certificate has him as Herald Arthur Van Dam, born March 14, 1914 in Minnesota; parents Van Dam, born Holland, and Kuyper, born Iowa; died at 1:50 a.m., October 26, 1927, of bilateral lobar pneumonia, duration 17 days; buried in Glendale Cemetery (no city given).
