Dr. Marvin O. Larson, 61, who had practiced medicine in Hawarden since 1938, died early Saturday morning at the Hawarden Community Hospital after suffering a heart attack. American flags were displayed throughout the business district Monday when funeral services were held at the Methodist Church for the veteran of World War II. Dr. G.S. Bruland, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated at the services at which Mrs. Ralph Gregg, jr., sang "My God and I" and "The End of a Perfect Day." Mrs. Ivoran Noe was organist.

Casket bearers were E.V. Slife, Jr., Roy Roth, Elwood Iverson, Norman Degen, Frank Buryanck and Frank Andriesen. Two Oakes post No. 254 of the American Legion had charge of graveside services at Grace Hill cemetery.

Dr. Larson was born January 16, 1905, at Whiting, Iowa. He attended Morning side college at Sioux City and was graduated from the University of Iowa Medical School at Iowa City in 1931. Dr. Larson served his internship at Ancker Hospital in St. Paul and then practiced medicine at Alton, Iowa, for six years before coming to Hawarden in 1938.

He married Edith Bennett at Hawarden April 1, 1934. In 1940 he entered the United States Army Medical Corps from which he was discharged in 1945 when he returned to Hawarden.

He was actively practicing medicine until a few hours before his death in the hospital to which he had contributed unlimited time and considerable money for the new addition.

At the funeral services Dr. Bruland said, in part:
"Coming home from the high school football game, he was summoned to the hospital where he cared for one of his patients. Soon thereafter he himself took sick and the following morning at 3 o'clock he passed away. "He was a man who dearly loved God's wonderful nature; took many long trips with his motor boat, and was a great fisherman...
"Because of his dedication to a service of love and great interest, he will be greatly missed by many in our community."

He was a member of the American Legion, the American Academy of General Practitioners, the American Medical Association, the Hawarden Rotary Club and the First Methodist Church.

Dr. Larson is survived by his widow, Edith; a brother, Dale Larson of Onawa, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Guy Clauser of Waterloo, Iowa.
