FRANK TASSHALLER

The remains of Frank Tasshaller, who died at Cherokee, Iowa, last Thursday, August 25, were brought to Rock Valley for funeral services and burial. The funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Church in Rock Valley Monday morning and the remains were taken to St. Mary’s Cemetery for burial.

Mr. Tasshaller lived in Rock Valley the greater part of his life. He was born at Petersburg, Iowa, May 26, 1884. Soon afterwards his parents moved to Rock Valley where he grew to manhood. He worked in hardware stores here for several years and later, went to Everly, Iowa, where he bought a hardware store and conducted a successful business there for about fourteen years. A few years ago health failed and he had to sell his business at Everly. Since that time he has continued to fail until the end came.

Mr. Tasshaller leaves one brother, Tony Tasshaller, of Le Mars, and three sisters, Mrs. P. Cramer and Mrs. B. Witt, who live near Doon, and Mary, who is in a convent at Dubuque.

From the Alton Democrat, September 2, 1927, Rock Valley news:

The body of Frank Tosselar was shipped to Rock Valley Sunday evening and funeral services were held Monday morning in St. Mary’s Catholic church and interment made in St. Mary’s cemetery. The Tosselars were residents of Rock Valley many years ago and have many friends here, who are sorry to hear of the passing of a faithful friend.

His death certificate has Frank Tasshaller, single, age 42, usual residence Everly, Iowa; resident of Cherokee State Hospital 1 year, 6 months, 4 days; born in Iowa; father born in Germany and mother in Illinois, but names unknown to the State Hospital; occupation, hardware & furniture business; died at 5:10 p.m. August 25, 1927; cause, suicide by muriatic acid; contributory cause, manic depressive, depressed; buried at Rock Valley.
