Miss Katherine Hogan passed away at Rochester, Minn., at 7:00 o'clock a.m. on July 3, the cause of her death being tumor of the brain. Miss Hogan was born at Hull, Ia., July 14, 1879, and resided at Hull during her entire life, having taught school at Sioux Falls, Rock Valley, Perkins and different rural schools in this community. In 1897 the year in which she graduated from the Hull high school a prize was offered to the member of the graduating class who showed the best elocutionary talent. Miss Hogan merited the prize as well as the honor with which she was graduated. Miss Hogan's remains were taken from Rochester, Minn., on July 4, to the home of her sister, Mrs.M.J. Quinn at Algona. On July 5th Requiem High Mass was celebrated for her at the Catholic church at Algona. She was then taken to Hull, and brought to the home of Mr. and Mrs. E.C.Wier. On July 6th Requiem High Mass was sung at St. Joseph's church by Father Wrenn of Alvord assisted by Father Cooper of Sanborn, Father Fish of Maurice and Father McNally of Sibley, after which the remains were placed beside those of her mother in St. Joseph's cemetery. A large concourse of relatives and friends took part in the last sad rites. Words of comment on Miss Katherine Hogan, the writer feels are unnecessary as the Hogan family have been residents of this community and of the farm they now own north of Hull for over forty years and have always been known to be first in the community to lend a helping hand in case of sickness or affliction when the same was needed and Miss Katherine Hogan will be missed as a leader and model in society.
