Mrs. Edward J. Kooreman Passes On, Alton Resident Over 60 Years

Mrs. Edward J. Kooreman, a loved Alton resident for over 60 years , passed on at the Brentwood Nursing Home at Le Mars Monday, March. 20th. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 Thursday at the Presbyterian Church here, of which she was a member.

Esther Roberts was born October 10, 1879 at Lake Crystal , Minnesota, to Sarah and Owen Roberts. She came to Alton in March, 1902 and opened a millinery shop which she conducted until her marriage to Edward J. Kooreman, young Alton jeweler, July 24, 1907.

She is survived by one daughter, Marion, Mrs. I.H. Schroeder of Eagle Grove, lowa; 3 grandchildren: Carolyn 15, Edward 12 and Joe, 7. Mr. Kooreman died March 13, 1954 and two brothers, George and Arch Roberts, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Kooreman was ill for over three years and hospitalized for some months following surgery for a broken hip. After her release from the hospital she lived with her daughter at Eagle Grove and later at the Brentwood Home, where Alton friend were able to call on her.

Mrs. Kooreman was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Ladies Aid Society and Past Matron of Century Chapter , Eastern Star. She was long identified with the social life of Alton where she was a cherished friend to many, a kind neighbor and devoted wife and mother.
