Hawarden Independent of March 5, 1906

Henry Hansen died very suddenly at his home in this city last Thursday evening form heart failure after an illness of several months duration. While he was known to be in a very serious condition, yet his death came very unexpectedly. His wife was assisting him to arise, when he expired in her arms without a moment’s previous warning.

The deceased was born in Germany Jan 19, 1861. He served two years and a half in the German army. In 1887 he left the Fatherland and came direct to Hawarden and with the exception of two years he has since made this city his home. He was united in marriage to Miss Lena Hendricksen in Sep. 1902 . He was a member of the well- known firm of Hansen Bros., who for many years conduced on of Hawarden’s largest mercantile establishments. As a salesman he was liked by everyone and through his personal popularity assisted greatly in building up the trade which this firm enjoyed.

The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at the Presbyterian church, Rev. Chittenden delivering a very able sermon. The deceased was a member of the Knights of Pythian and Odd Follow orders and after the services at the church the remains were taken in charge by the members of the K. P. order and buried under their impressive ritual rites, the Odd Follows acting as an honorary escort to the grave.
