Lucille Hoekstra, age 81, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Kevin Muyskens officiating.

Burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation will be Friday, December 15, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. all at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.

Lucille Greta Hoekstra was born on May 17, 1936 in Orange City, Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Tena (Van Maanen) Van Marel. She lived her youth on a farm north of Orange City and attended country school and Newkirk High School.
She was united in marriage to Creston Hoekstra of Sheldon, Iowa on February 24, 1956 in Orange City. They lived and farmed south of Sheldon where Lucy was an active farm wife and mother. In 1994, they retired and moved to town.
She was a member of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon where Lucy was a Gems leader and was active in Ladies Aid for many years. She and Creston enjoyed volunteering on work trips with Justice for All and evenings of foot fellowship.
Lucy was a very outgoing, fun-loving, devoted mother and wife. She found joy in painting, wood working, and making gifts. She loved sports and cheered her children and grandchildren on at many events. She enjoyed shopping with her mother and girls and was known by her grandkids as the grandma with a roomful of gifts for birthdays and Christmas. She treasured spending time with her family.
She passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of 61 years, Creston Hoekstra of Sheldon, IA; her six children and their spouses, Lila (Gayrey) Whitfield of Remsen, IA, Twila (Harlan) Oolman of Orange City, IA, Darrell (Cheryl) Hoekstra of Alton, IA, Kevin (Sandy) Hoekstra of Sioux Center, IA, Lyle (Teresa) Hoekstra of Sheldon, IA, Karla (Henry) Byl of Sioux Center, IA; 24 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Carl (Susie) Van Marel of Rockwall, TX, William (Kathy) Van Marel of Orange City, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren, Anthony Hoekstra and Erica Hoekstra.

Memorials will be given to Justice For All and Unity Christian High School.
