Kathy F. Frerichs, 88, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 27, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Rev. Dr. Jean Ziettlow and Rev. Chris Meier will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Monday.

Kathleen Faye Frerichs, the daughter of Nicholas and Kathryn (Brolsma) Bogaard, was born on January 18, 1929 on her family’s farm near Orange City, Iowa. She attended country school near her home and graduated from Newkirk High School. Kathy furthered her education at St. Joseph’s Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa. Following graduation, her first nursing job was in Kansas City in the surgical ward. When her father became ill, Kathy returned to the area and took a position at the Orange City Clinic with Dr. Grossmann.

On September 30, 1961, Kathy and George Wilbur Frerichs were united in marriage at Orange City, Iowa. She took a position with Sacred Heart (Floyd Valley) Hospital in Le Mars after her girls were in school and worked there for the remainder of her nursing career. She retired in 1994.

Kathy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She sang in the choir and played piano for the children’s choir. She also sang with the group, Singspiration 6. Kathy belonged to the Floyd Valley Hospital Auxiliary as well as volunteering in the cancer and urology center. She and George volunteered with the Senior Companion program and Meals on Wheels. Each year they hosted a New Year’s Eve party for the grandchildren and were active in their lives.

Grateful to have shared her life are her two daughters and their husbands, Beth and Mark Strub of Le Mars, IA and Kay and Roger Bohnenkamp of Remsen, IA; grandchildren and their families, Zackary Strub and special friend, Morgan Young and their son, Silas, Ben Strub and special friend, Kelsea Peatrowsky and their son, Lucas, Sarah Strub and special friend, Adam Chapman, Matt Strub and special friend, Jackie Pasek, Christopher and BreeAnn Bohnenkamp and their son, Brennan, Nicole Bohnenkamp and her fiancé, John Andrick; a sister, Ruth and Dr. Lee Van Voorhis of Iowa City, IA, sisters-in-law, Alma Bogaard of Storm Lake, IA, Ardith and Bernie Fischer of Helena, MT, Carol and Charlie Rowe of Lake Park, IA; Donna Frerichs and Marlys Frerichs both of Le Mars, IA; a brother-in-law, Leon Frerichs of Anaheim, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George on August 11, 2010; brothers, Richard, Cliff and his wife, Ethel and Milton Bogaard; brothers-in-law, Gerald, Richard and Stanley Frerichs; and nephews, David Bogaard, Richard Allen Frerichs, Tom Frerichs and Gary Frerichs.
