William W. Knight, one of Hawarden's oldest residents and a pioneer of Union County, South Dakota, passed away at his home at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon following an illness of four years. Mr. Knight suffered a stroke and was bedfast four years.

Funeral services were held at the Barnard Funeral Home at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon with Elder A.J. Gordon of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Sioux Falls in charge. Interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery.

William Worth Knight was born in Michigan City, Indiana, October 23, 1850, and passed away in Hawarden January 10, 1942, having attained the advanced age of 91 years, 2 months and 17 days. His father passed away when he was a child. At the age of 17 in company with his mother and other members of the family he came west to Burbank, South Dakota, where they lived for a time. Later they came to Union County and homesteaded on a farm northwest of Hawarden.

In 1882 he was united in marriage with Emma Rae Corbin at Hawarden and to this union were born seven children. In 1905 he moved to Hawarden with his family and for the past 37 years he has resided in this city. After coming to Hawarden he was employed as a mason and a laborer.

He was the last member of a family of four children. He is survived by his wife and seven children. The children are Ralph W. of Cortland, New York, Vernon of Tyndall, South Dakota, and Mrs. E.R. Finch, Fred, Harry and Dorothy Knight and Mrs. C.O. Jones of Hawarden. There are 14 grandchildren.
