Joseph Kleinhesselink Who Settled in County in 1870 Passes On

HIGHLY RESPECTED MAN

Mr. Kleinhesselink Was Last Member of Family of Eight – Leaves Eight Children

Joseph Kleinhesselink, widely known throughout the county, one of the county pioneers and the last member of a family of eight children, died at 8:30 Friday morning at the house of his son Gerrit, west of Alton. Mr. Kleinhesslink was 70 years, 6 months and 10 days old at the time of his death, which was also the anniversary of the death of his son William who died 24 years ago at the age of 12.

Eight children and 18 grandchildren survive. The children are John of Alton, Mrs. Herman Schreuer, Orange City, Gerrit of Alton, Mrs. Al. De Boer, Chas, Ed, Fred and Henry all of Sioux County. They have the sincere symphathy of many friends in the loss of a kind and loving father, esteemed and respected by all.

Joseph Kleinhesselink was born in the Netherlands and at the age of 8 years came to this country with his mother and sisters and brothers. They lived first in New York and Wisconsin and among the very early settlers in 1870, came to Sioux County, where the children married and settled.

All of the five sisters and two brothers have passed on. They were Mrs. John Kooreman, Mrs. H.J. Rexwinkel, Mrs. Navis, Mrs. Giebink, Mrs. Swenink, A.J. and G. Kleinhesselink.

Mr. Kleinhesselink married Diena Harmelink, who passed away four years ago, since which time he has been living with his son, Gerrit.

The funeral was held Monday at the Gerrit Kleinhesselink home at Orange City and in the First Reformed Church of which he was a member. Reverend Engelsman conducted the services, which were attended by a large number of relatives and friends.
