MRS. VAN HUNNINK DEAD

Mrs. John Van Hunnink passed away at her home in Rock Valley this Thursday morning. She had been sick for a long time. She was in the hospital at Hull for several weeks last winter. Later she was brought back home, and a few weeks ago submitted to an operation in the Rock Valley hospital. She improved for a while following this operation but was taken sick again and she gradually grew worse until the call came.

Mrs. Van Hunnink leaves a husband and a family of grown children.

From the Alton Democrat, August 6, 1926, Rock Valley news:

Mrs. John Van Hunnink passed away after an illness of five months. Mrs. Van Hunnink passed away on Thursday morning, July 28[i.e., July 29]. Mrs. Van Hunnink was operated on at Hull but did not properly regain her health to she submitted to an operation at the Rock Valley hospital six weeks ago, but in her weakened condition, altho she gained strength, during the very hot weather she again grew ill and gradually grew worse until the death angel summoned her from her sufferings to the home beyond. She leaves to mourn her husband and a large family of grown up children. Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Ref. church, conducted by Rev. Geo. D. Douwstra, burial taking place in the Ireton cemetery.

Her death certificate has Marie Van Hunnink, wife of John Van Hunnink; born April 10, 1868 in Holland; resident of the United States 16 years and of Rock Valley 3 years; parents Ira Hardman and Minnie Vant Hull, both born in Holland; died at 6:20 a.m. July 29, 1926; cause, “senility”; contributory cause: operation for appendicitis preceded death on June 1, 1926; buried July 21, Ireton cemetery.

The obituary of her husband John, 1868-1948 (posted separately) says that he married Marie Hardeman December 23, 1893 in the Netherlands.
