Brother of local woman dies at church service

Richard Brower, 57, a prominent Iowa educator for 31years, died Sunday morning following a heart attack while attending church services in Rock Rapids.
Mr. Brower had served as superintendent of schools at Aredale, Colwell, Ledyard, Cylinder, Archer and Rembrandt. He retired two years ago because of ill health. Mr. Brower was a graduate of Hull high school;Central college at Pella, in 1929, and took postgraduate work at the University of Colorado, Iowa State University and the University of Iowa.

Mr. Brower was born January 23, 1905, at Hull. He married Alice Mellema August 12, 1937. He was a member of the First Reformed church.

Survivors include the widow, a daughter Judith at home, a brother William of Chicago, and two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Juffer of Ireton and Mrs. Anna Kragt of Rock Valley.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Jongewaard funeral home.
