From the Alton Democrat, June 18, 1926, Hull news:

Mr. Gerrit Vander Zwaag passed away Friday evening. He had been ailing for some time with cancer of the stomach and all that loving hands could do was of no avail and death relieved him of the awful suffering and pain. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the house and 2:00 at the Christian Reformed church, Rev. C. Huissen officiating. Burial was made in Hope cemetery.

G. VANDER ZWAAG DIES

Relatives and friends are mourning the death of Gerrit VanderZwaag, who died at his home east of Hull, Friday, June 11, after a prolonged illness, the result of cancer.

Mr. VanderZwaag was a kind and loving husband and father, and a true neighbor, and will be greatly missed by all. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss. He was 55 years and 9 months old.

The funeral was held Monday, June 14, at 1:30 o’clock from the home and 2 o’clock from the Christian Reformed Church, Hull, Iowa, Rev. Huissen officiating. Burial was made in Hope Cemetery. The Index joins in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

His death certificate shows him born Sept. 16, 1870, in Holland; parents Klaas Vander Zwaag and Bertha Cleanen; wife Johanna Vander Zwaag; a farmer; resident of the U.S. for 21 years; died at 12:30 p.m. June 11, 1926; cause, carcinoma ventriculi with metastases, duration 1 year 9 months 8 days; death was preceded by an operation in Sept. 1924, which confirmed the diagnosis.
