BERNARD KINNEY RITES AT ALTON ST. MARY’S FRIDAY

Tuesday evening, October 6, 1959, at 6:20 P.M. the Alton community was deeply shocked and grieved by the sudden passing of Bernard Kinney, one of its popular farmers. He passed away at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital following surgery.

Solemn Requiem High Mass was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church Friday morning, October 9, at 9:30 A.M. with Very Reverend Monsignor Zeno Reising, celebrant, Reverend Joseph Hyland of Sheldon, deacon and Reverend Cecil Friedmann of Le Mars, sub-deacon. Six cousins, Norbert Neyers, Aloysius Gengler, Don Arens, Miles Arens, Milo Homan and Ray Arens served as pallbearers.

Mr. Kinney was born on a farm south of Alton June 18, 1910, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. James Kinney. Bern, as he was better known to a host of friends, lived and farmed in the Alton community his entire life. He was respected and liked by all.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Katherine Kinney; brothers, Joseph of Oyens, Robert of Alton, James of Hospers, Ivo of Pomeroy; sisters: Magdalene, Mrs. Raymond Cheboski of Chicago, Alberta, Mrs. Everild Niehus of Pipestone, Minnesota and Viola, Mrs. Albert Hansen of Alton; also twenty-three nieces and nephews. His father, James Kinney, preceded him in death on March 24, 1949; also one nephew.
