Rock Valley, IA: Edward Hauser, 87, of Rock Valley, Iowa died Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Sanford Rock Rapids Medical Center in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 9, at 11:00 AM at the First Reformed Church of Rock Valley with Rev. Verlyn Boone officiating. Private family burial will be held prior to the service at Richland Cemetery of Inwood. Visitation, with the family present, will be Wednesday, November 8, from 5:30-7:30 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.
 
Edward Neal Hauser, son of Paul and Esther (Oakland) Hauser, was born April 8, 1930 near Inwood, Iowa on the family farm. Ed attended and graduated as valedictorian from Inwood High School in 1948. He married Betty Noteboom in Canton, South Dakota on August 16, 1952. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with the entire family. Shortly after marriage, Ed was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country from 1953-1955 during the Korean War. Upon returning from the war, Ed and Betty farmed for 34 years near Inwood.
 
After retirement, Ed worked for several area farmers, hauling grain. He was employed by Valley Bakery of Rock Valley for 20 years. He also enjoyed woodworking and playing cards at the Rock Valley Senior Center with his friends. Ed was a member of the First Reformed Church of Inwood and the First Reformed Church of Rock Valley, where he served as elder and deacon of both churches.
 
Ed is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty; 4 children, Barbara (Clifford) Folkens of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Becky Dentel of Altoona, Iowa, Bonnie (Phil) North of Roanoke, Virginia, and Brian (Charmin) Hauser of Pella, Iowa; 9 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Anna Marie Gardner of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Ruth (Ron) Serck of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Carol (Billy) Williams of East Bend, North Carolina; 2 brothers, Stanley (Kathleen) of Marengo, Iowa and Kenneth (Dorcas) of Winston Salem, North Carolina; and sister-in-law, Marcella Hauser of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ralph Hauser; great-grandson, Jack Folkens; and son-in-law, Tom Dentel.
