Gerrit John Schut Dies In Calif. Mr. Gerrit John Schut, a former Sioux Center resident, passed away at Santa Anna, Calif, on Wednesday afternoon, April 21. He had reached the age of 82 yrs. He had been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Chas. Rockwell for the past number of years.
Funeral services were held, at Santa Anna on Saturday, April 24. Mr. Schut was born on Jan. 8, 1866. He was united in marriage to Miss Dora Lammers who preceded him in death several years ago. He was engaged in farming two miles north west of Carmel for many years, on a farm where the Wm. Be Boer family now live.
They also farmed at Colton, S. D. He and his family then returned to Sioux Center and he operated a garage which was located where the Co-op. Gas Station now is. He was one of the first car dealers in Sioux Center and also had a threshers ring while here. Several years ago he left for California to make his home with his children and he made his last visit to Sioux Center about three years ago when he came to attend the annual Schut family reunion.
He is now survived by the following children, Fannie (Mrs. Arie De Vos) of Hawarden; Hattie (Mrs. Bert Van Voorst) of Ireton; Jennie (Mrs. Henry Nicoli), Stockton, IL; Gertrude (Mrs. Ed Van Van Donge) of Ireton; Garrit Schut of Freeport, IL.; Rena (Mrs. Charles Rockwell) of Santa Anna,CA, Sam Schut of Madison SD and William Schut of Madison SD, as son Sam, and two daughters Minnie and Dora preceded him in death. He is further survived by his step mother Mrs. De Wit of Grand Haven MI, three brothers Sam of Jamesville WI, Frank of Gary IN, and Pete of Sioux Center and two sisters, Mrs. Adam Punt of Sioux Center and Miss Sandrena Schut of Gran Ha
