From the Alton Democrat, February 26, 1926:

HERMAN DETHMERS

Herman, the 14 year old son of Mr. and. Mrs. Albert Dethmers, died at nine o'clock Wednesday morning following an illness of a few days. He had been an invalid most of his life but the end came unexpectedly and was a severe shock to relatives and friends. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Sympathy of the community is extended to the sorrowing family

From the Boyden Reporter, January 25, 1926:

HERMAN DETHMERS

Herman Dethmers was born at Edgerton, Minn. on June 4, 1912 and died Wednesday, February 17 at 8:40 a.m. at the age of 13 years, 8 months and 13 days. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Dethmers. Funeral services for the deceased were held at 1:30 p.m. at the home and 2:00 p.m. at the First Reformed church, on February 18th, Rev. J. M. Lumkes officiating. Interment was made in the Boyden cemetery. Besides his parents, there are two brothers and two sisters, John, Nancy, Robert and Elvera.

Deceased was an invalid all of his life and was always cared for as an infant. The cause of his death was from some pressure on the brain. The Reporter extends its sympathy to the bereaved parents and family.

His death certificate gives his birth date as June 14, 1912 in Minnesota; resident of Sheridan Township 5 years, 11 months; parents Albert Dethmers, born Netherlands, and Annie Ver Hoef, born Iowa; died Feb. 17, 1926, after having been attended by the doctor from Feb. 12 to 16. Cause: “Deceased was an imbecile. Changes due to puberty. Only symptom seemed to be antrocranial[?] pressure.”
