Victor P. Kellen, 73, of Alton, died Tuesday, June 28 in a Sioux City Hospital after a brief illness.

Services were held Friday, July 1, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Monsignor Nicholas J. Ruba officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by Floyd Post 200, American Legion. The Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kellen was born March 28, 1915 in rural Alton to William and Anna (Mairose) Kellen and was raised and educated in the Alton area. He married Helen Henrich August 14, 1943 in Alton while on leave from the Army. The couple lived in San Francisco where he left for 2 ½ years for overseas duty in the South Pacific. They returned to Remsen in January 1946 and in the spring of 1951 moved to the Alton area and they operated a dairy farm for 26 years. They retired in November 1978 and moved into Alton.

Mr. Kellen was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Fraternal Order of Eagles of Le Mars.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Donald of Ames and Dale of Omaha; five daughters, Mrs. William (Mary Kay) Quinlan and Mrs. R. Jerry (Sandy) Burgess, both of Wheaton, Illinois, Mrs. David (Linda) Hansen of Sheldon, Mrs. John (Kathy) Wonder of Omaha and Mrs. Matt (Marge) Hasenwinkel of Iowa Falls; a brother of Remsen; three sisters, Mrs. Nick (Dorothy) Wandersheid of Remsen, Mrs. Vernon (Frances) Wess of Fairmont, Minnesota, and Mrs. Francis (Esther) Gaffey of Le Mars and 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, William Jr. in infancy, Stanley, Raymond and Vernon, and three sisters, Mrs. Lee (Florence) Henrich, Mrs. John (Lillian) Gengler and Mrs. Ed (Evelyn) Harmon.
