Jake Vander Stouwe, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Vander Stouwe of Hull, Iowa, passed away at 7:30 o’clock Saturday morning at the home of his sister, Mrs. Gertie Vander Stouwe, at Orange City. He had been ill for many months, having been a patient in a tubercular hospital in Denver, Colorado, and also at Oakdale, Iowa. Two months ago he was taken to the home of his sister where everything possible was done for his comfort.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at 11:30 o’clock at his sister’s home, Rev. Colenbrander having charge of the service. The body was then taken to Hull for burial, the Masonic Lodge, of which he was a member, conducting the services at the chapel.

From the Alton Democrat, January 1, 1926, Hull news:

JAKE VANDER STOUWE SUCCUMBS TO T.B.

Mr. Jake Vander Stouwe of Rock Valley died Saturday morning at the home of his sister in
Orange City after a lingering illness of many months. Mr. Vander Stouwe was born in 1890, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Vander Stouwe of this city, and grew to manhood in this locality. He was married to Miss Jennie Van Noort and to them were born six children, five of whom are living. A few years ago he moved his family to Boyden where he lived until the time of his death.

Mr. Vander Stouwe’s health had been very bad for some time. About a year ago he left for Denver, Colorado with hopes of warding off the dread disease of tuberculosis. After several months he was brought back to Iowa and placed in the sanitarium at Oakdale. Treatment was of no avail however, and a few weeks ago he was taken to the home of his sister at Orange City to be near relatives and friends until his death.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, 4 sons, one daughter, his parents, five brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held at Orange City at 11:00 Monday morning. Burial was made in Hope cemetery, Hull, Iowa at 1:00 o;clock.

From the Sioux County Index (Hull), January 1, 1926:

JACOB VANDE STOUWE DIES

The sad news of the death of Mr. Jacob VandeStouwe was received in Hull, Saturday morning, by relatives and friends. Jacob had been ill for nearly a year and suffered much. He died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Joe Vanderschaaf, at Orange City, where he had been since leaving the Tuberculosis Sanitorium at Oakdale, Iowa, a few months ago. He would have been 36 years old on the 14th day of January.

Mr. VandeStouwe leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss and the heartfelt sympathy of all goes out to them. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. VandeStouwe, of this place, three sisters, Mrs. Joe VanderSchaaf, of Orange City, Mrs. P. VanderStoep, of Orange City, and Mrs. B. Vande Berg, of Sioux Center, and six brothers, William, John, Bert, Henry, Albert and Gerrit.

The funeral was held at Orange City at 11:30 o’clock, at the sister’s home and in the Memorial Chapel in Hope Cemetery, at Hull, at 1:30 o’clock. The services at Orange City were in charge of Rev. Colenbrander, and the services here were in charge of the Masonic Lodge. Large crowds packed both services.

It is indeed sad when a young life like this is taken, doubly so when one was so well liked as “Jake” was. The load is indeed a great one for the relatives to bear.
