Former Resident Jake Van Beek Dies Wednesday

Funeral service for Jake Van Beek, 73, were held Friday, Dec 22 in the Anderson funeral home with Rev Oscar L Olson, Holmes City, officiating, and Saturday in the Larchwood
Congregational church with Rev. Gilbert Cook officiating.
Music was by Mrs. Gilbert Cook, Mrs. Joe Schreurs and Janet Williams. Pallbearers were Al Blauwet, Charles Blauwet,Les Reinke, Carl De Wandel and Vern McKenney.

Mr. Van Beek died Wednesday in the Douglas county hospital following a heart attack on Saturday. He was born in the Netherlands on Aug., 10, 1889, the son of Jake and Artie Van
Beek. At 14 years of age his family came to the United States and settled near Rock Valley. He was united in marriage to Francis Bol on Feb. 27, 1913. They farmed near Inwood, Larchwood, Rock Rapids and Rock Valley until 1955 when they moved to the Sun Valley Resort on Mill Lake near Alexandria, Minn., which they owned
and operated for the past 6 years.

Survivors include the widow, Francis, six daughters Mrs. Ray (Nell) McCarthy, Mrs. George (Ann) McCarthy, Larchwood, Mrs. Sam (Mary) Nelson, Albany, Calif, Mrs. W. A. (Bertha)
Ryan, Kansas City, Kan., Mrs. Tom (Mitzi) Rector, Sioux Falls, Mrs. Jack (Florence) Kroll, Albany, Calif.; three sons, Jack,
Sam, and Glen, Alexandria, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dick, George, Rock Valley,
and Bert of Sioux Falls; one sister Hattie Mosterdt, Rock Valley.

All of the children were present for the services.

Interment was in the Larchwood Cemetery.
