From the Rock Valley Bee, December 4, 1925:

MRS. ANNA VAN DE WEERD

Mrs. Anna Vande Weerd, wife of H. H. Vande Weerd, died at her home in Rock Valley early Monday morning, following a lingering illness of several months duration, leakage of the heart.

Mrs. Vande Weerd was born in Holland, September 2, 1871, and had attained the age of fifty-four years two months and twenty-eight days. Her early life was spent in her native land, where she grew to womanhood. She came to this country in 1892 and that same year was married to G. A. Kersbergen. She lived in Rock Valley almost continuously since her arrival from Holland, with the exception of about three years in Minnesota.

Mr. Kersbergen died in 1915, and a year later she was married to Mr. H. H. Vande Weerd, and they made their home here until death claimed her.

Mrs. Vande Weerd was a woman who was highly thought of, and her death, although not unexpected, is a shock to her family and friends.

Mrs. Vande Weerd was the mother of nine children, one of whom, Gerrit Kersbergen, died in France while in the service. The others are living.

Funeral services will be held at the home at 1:30 p.m. and the First Reformed church of Rock Valley at 2:00 o’clock. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of many friends in their sorrow.

A similar obituary was published in the Alton Democrat, December 11, 1925, Rock Valley news. It adds this information about her family:

To this union [with G. A. Kersbergen] were born eight children, six sons and two daughters, Albert, Cornelius, Gerrit, Arie, Wilhelmina, Frank, Harry and Anna. The three older sons, Albert, Cornelius and Gerrit, served in the World war and the last named died in France. The others survive.

It adds this information about her and her funeral:

She was a member of the Woman’s Auxiliary of the American Legion. Funeral services were held at the home and at the First Reformed church, conducted by Rev. Douwstra, Rev. W. C. Bergman and Rev. John De Jong, a former pastor of that church now at Carmel, assisting. Interment was at Valley View cemetery on Wednesday afternoon. Many beautiful floral wreaths attested to the high esteem in which she was held.
