GEORGE JUNGERS, JR., YOUNG ALTON FARMER DIES WHILE AT WORK

The Alton community was shocked and saddened ny the tragic death of George Jungers Junior, 28, who passed on suddenly from a heart attack the evening of June 12th while at work in the field with his tractor.

George was born on the home farm March 28, 1931, and lived on the home place all his life. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy with the class of 1949 and farmed with his father, taking over the operation of the farm in 1957. He married Elenora Klein, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Klein of Hospers at St. Anthony’s Church in Hospers November 18, 1958.

Survivors include his wife Elenora, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George and Barbara (Engeldinger) Jungers Sr. of Alton, three sisters and two brothers, namely Florence, Mrs. R.E. Muth of Iowa City; Bernice, Mrs. Leo D. Goergen of Granville; Bernard of Hospers; Herbert of Des Moines; Adella, Mrs. Merlyn Nichel of Fulda, Minnesota.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and of the Granville Council of the Knights of Columbus and had many warm friends who deeply regret his early passing.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock in St. Mary’s Church with interment in the parish cemetery. Officiating was Reverend Richard Zenk of Sioux City, cousin of the deceased. Pallbearers were neighbors of the deceased: Nicholas Hansen Jr., Sylvester Hansen, Leonard Kone, Orville Von Arb, Howard Pottebaum and Anthony Pottebaum Jr.

Dinner for relatives after the rites was at St. Mary’s Hall.

Relatives attending from a distance, in addition to the brothers and sisters and their families were: Messrs. And Mesdames, Richard Jungers, Sauk Center, Minnesota; Roger Stremlau, Mendota, Illinois; Matt Holles, Springfield, Minnesota; Jack Frederick, Winford, South Dakota; Art Holles, Sioux City; George Vortherms, Fulda, Minnesota; Cyril Zenk, Slayton, Minnesota; Alvin Zenk, Sibley; Mrs. Rose Schuver Sr. and Harold, Nora, Springs; Mrs. Teresa Sonkracht, Mendota, Illinois; Mrs. Mark Full of Taunton, Minnesota; and many relatives and friends from Alton and surrounding towns.
