Ten Haken, Antoinette (Mrs. Vernon Eugene) 1925-2017

Mrs. Antoinette “Toni” Ten Haken, age 92, of Sheldon, formerly of Boyden, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017, at the Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon.

There will be a memorial service on Thursday, September 21, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Boyden. The Rev. David Poppen will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a family prayer service on Thursday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. Visitation with the family will be after the lunch on Thursday at the church.

Antoinette June was born on June 8, 1925, at Hull, the daughter of Henry and Dena (Meerdink) De Wild. She was raised at Hull, where she attended country school and graduated from the public high school.

On July 18, 1946, she married Vernon Eugene Ten Haken at the First Reformed Church in Hull. They made their home mostly in Boyden, where she was a homemaker. She also worked at Handicap Village, now Village Northwest Unlimited, in Sheldon. In retirement, they wintered in Yuma, Arizona. They moved to Fieldcrest in 2010.

Mrs. Ten Haken was a member of the First Reformed Church in Boyden, where she participated in the women’s organizations. She provided foster care for many years; she enjoyed taking care of those around her.

She liked baking, bowling, camping, cooking, golfing, singing, and traveling. She was known for saving everything.

Survivors include her husband of more than 71 years, “Vern”; three children, Sandee Ten Haken, and her husband, Kevin Bartholomew, of Omaha, Nebraska; Ronley Ten Haken, of Boyden; and Lisa Wheat, and her husband, James, of Glenwood; four grandchildren, Anna Marcott, and her husband, Brandon, of Des Moines; Jane Ten Haken, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Zachary Wheat, and his wife, Katie, and Lacey Wheat, all of Omaha; a sister, LaVonne De Zeeuw, of Gilbert, Arizona; and a sister-in-law, Darlene Woelber, of Hull.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Lester De Wild; two brothers-in-law, Robert “Bob” De Zeeuw and Lloyd Woelber; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Viola and Melvin “Charlie” Van Schepen.
