Mrs. Christine Menning, age 96, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017; at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, July 21, at 10:30am, at the Newkirk Reformed Church in rural Hospers. The Rev. David Powers will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Newkirk Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service on Friday, at 9:45am at the church.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Thursday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Christine was born on August 5, 1920, in rural Hospers, the daughter of Sam and Jennie (Wykstra) Pott. She was raised at Hospers, where she attended the Christian school.

On September 18, 1942, she married Harold Menning at Hospers. They lived in the Newkirk area the majority of their life. Harold passed away on March 28, 1982, in Newkirk, after more than 39 years of marriage.

Later, Mrs. Menning moved into Orange City. In February of this year, she became a resident of Prairie Ridge.

Besides being a homemaker, she was a clerk at the Newkirk Store, a cook at the Newkirk Elementary School and the Orange City Municipal Hospital, and an employee of K-Products and the Heritage House Nursing Home, both in Orange City. She enjoyed sewing and reading.

Christine was a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church, where she was active in the Mission Fellowship and served as a librarian. For many years, she volunteered at Hands Around the World, Bethany Christian Services, and the Heritage House, all in Orange City.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Stanley and Sharon Menning, of Dawson, Minnesota; two daughters and their husbands, Darlene and Randy Immeker, of Sioux Center; and Charlene and Roger Oolman, of Orange City; nine grandchildren, Ken Menning, Kevin (Peggy) Menning, Steven (Laura) Menning, Stacie (Cory) Larson, Dawn Beegle, Chris (Nichole) Immeker, Dan (Jenny) Immeker, Heather (Michael) Nagel, and David (Darci) Palsma; twenty great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Thelma Pott, of Sheldon.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Wielenga; a son-in-law, Lee Palsma; a great-grandson, Coleton Hanson; five sisters, Martha (Ralph) Stuit, Gertie (Henry) Cuperus, Alice (Gerrit) Byker, Wilma (John) Modderman; and Wilhemina Pott; and a brother, Pete Pott.

Memorials may be directed to the Newkirk Reformed Church or the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
