Henrietta “Etta” Johnson, 96, of Aurelia and formerly of Hawarden, Iowa, died on Monday, November 15, 1993, at Sunset Knoll Nursing Home in Aurelia.

Services were scheduled for 1:30 Wednesday afternoon, November 17, 1993, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton, the Reverend Loren Vogler, Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton, under the direction of the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mrs. Johnson was born August 14, 1897, at Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of Habbe and Henrietta Braaks. She graduated from Ireton High School in 1916. She taught rural school at Miller, South Dakota, and Wall Lake, South Dakota, from 1916 to 1918. She married Andrew “Kelly” Johnson September 2, 1919, and the couple made their home in Hartford, South Dakota and Rockford, Iowa, until retiring to Hawarden in 1959. Mr. Johnson died in 1960. Mrs. Johnson had been a resident at Sunset Knoll in Aurelia since 1984.

Etta was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran of Hawarden.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Haan of Reno, Nebraska; a son and his wife, Donald and Georgia of Cherokee; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Harlan Haan; three brothers, Henry, Louis and Carl; and five sisters, Louisa (Kluter), Wiardine (Marienau), Greta (Edwards), Agatha (Siehels), and Sophia (Muilenberg).
