HENRY JEMMING BORN NEARLY 88 YEARS AGO--OLDEST CITIZEN OF GRANVILLR PASSES TO BEYOND--SPECIAL GRANVILLE NEWS

Henry Jemming was born in Keblen, Luxemburg on the 13th of May, 1838. He came to this country at the age of nine with his parents who settled near Port Washington, Wisconsin. After 10 years of residence there they moved near LaSalle, Illinois, where they remained for eight years. From there they moved to Iowa, settling on his father’s place between Hospers and Granville.

On February 18th, 1879 he was united in marriage with Mary Hoeltzner and to this union two children were born. They are Mrs. J.L. Weiskircher of this place and Henry Jemming who is farming near Ethan, South Dakota. In 1889 they moved to their own farm one mile south of Granville. In 1903 they moved to Granville where he died at his home Wednesday evening, February 17th.

Besides his wife and children, he leaves to mourn his sister, who lives in Los Angeles, California. Also thirteen grandchildren.

Interment took place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery Saturday morning at 9:00 o’clock with Reverend J.A. Gerleman officiating. Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Henry Jemming and children. Isabelle and Edward of Ethan, South Dakota; Hildegard, Salone and Ambrose Weiskircher of Iowa City; Edward Hoeltzner, brother of Mrs. Mary Jemming and son Joseph and wife of Mitchell, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Guisber of Alexandria, South Dakota, John Welnandt of Wynot, Nebraska; Theodore and Melchor Schwery and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Leuchen of Panama, Iowa; and Mr. and Mrs. Nick Fyereisen and son Joseph of Krantzburg, South Dakota; also Mr. and Nick Eicher of Madison, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Poeckes and Mrs. Benfoes of Le Mars; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Steffes of Fulda, Minnesota; and Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Roben of Dodgeville, Wisconsin; and many others from neighboring towns.

The Democrat joins the many friends in extending sympathy to the family in their bereavement. The sturdy pioneer will be missed greatly by friends of many years standing.
