Death: February 16, 1946

Mrs. Christiaan Jacobs, nee Mary Van Zyl, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson at Boyden Saturday evening February 16. She had reached the age of 85 years.

Mrs. Jacobs was born in Pella, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bart Van Zyl, pioneers and early Sioux County settlers. She was married in 1885 to Christiaan Jacobs who preceded her in death some years ago. The past few years she has been staying with her children, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Jacobs of Rock Valley and Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson at Boyden. Mrs. Jacobs will be remembered by those who knew her as an earnest, devout Christian.

Formerly of Newkirk where they farmed, Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs moved to Orange City around 30 years ago where he was engaged in the nursery business and owned a greenhouse.

The children surviving are, Herman Jacobs of Rock Valley, Kate (Mrs. William Johnson) of Boyden, Reverend Henry Jacobs of Detroit, Michigan, Jennie Jacobs, Missionary to China, Bert Jacobs of Sheldon, and Sam Jacobs of California. A daughter, Henrietta, passed away when a young girl.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at the Johnson home at Boyden and in the Reformed Church at Newkirk where Reverend H. Colenbrander pastor of the First Reformed Church in Orange City (of which the decedent was a member until the time of her departure) will officiate. Interment will be made in the Newkirk Cemetery.
