John Palmer Jacobs passed away at his home Tuesday morning, September 24, 1929 at the age of 71 years.

Mr. Jacobs was born at Nasshua, N.H., and while a small child he moved with this parents to Belvidere, Illinois,in which vicinity he grew to manhood.

In 1887 he came to Hull, Iowa, then called Winland, and began railway work which occupation he faithfully followed for the past 42 years and was classed as a trusted, veteran employee of the Milwaukee Railway.

In October 1889 he was married to Mattie L. Bly at Janesville, Wisconsin, where they met while Mr. Jacobs was attending the college of telegraphy.

To this union four children were born, all of whom were at home during the time of their father’s illness and at the time of his death.

Mr. Jacobs was a member of the local Modern Woodman Camp and a member of the Masonic Lodge, also a member of the Eastern Star of which he consisted brother and served for years as Worshipful Master, as their trusted and efficient treasurer from year to year without the formality of a ballot.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the M.E. Church in Rock Valley, conducted by Reverend Hoecker, pastor of the Congregational Church of Hudson, South Dakota, and burial was in Valley View Cemetery under the auspices of the Masonic lodge.
