Mrs. Amelia Jacobs, 90, a resident of this vicinity for almost 70 years, died last Thursday at the Hawarden hospital following a long illness. A native of Denmark, Mrs. Jacobs came to America at the age of 21. She made the trip to the United States alone, locating at Ireton, where her brothers lived. She had 84 descendants.

She was born June 24, 1862, and was married in 1886 to Louis Jacobs. All her wedded life was spent on the Jacobs farm northeast of Hawarden. Following the death of her husband in 1918, she moved to Hawarden. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors were two daughters, Mrs. John Wendel of Montrose, South Dakota, and Mrs. Jake Wendel of De Smet, South Dakota; four sons, William and Dewey of Hawarden, Albert of Randolph, Minnesota, and Peter of Northfield, Minnesota; 32 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. Her husband and six children preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church, Reverend B. Roy Brown officiating. Mrs. Lewis Andrews, Sr., of Hudson with Mrs. P.W. Peters as accompanist sang "In The Garden," "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again." Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home.

Maltby and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Groth of Northfield, Minnesota; Mrs. Norman Ohmann of Cannon Falls, Minnesota; Mrs. Edwin Volbert of Rosemount, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Wedel and sons, Clarence, Lawrence and Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Wendel and Mrs. John Huszenga and Ronnie of De Smet, South Dakota. Mrs. Howard Nelson and Lester of Oregon; Mrs. Hovland of Beresford; Mrs. Anna Larson, Andrew Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Larson, Mrs. Francis Jacobs, [illegible] Jacobs and Louis Jacobs of Sioux Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Ray William Jacobs and family of Elko, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. John Wendel, Mr. and Mr. Nick Wendel, Walter Wendel, Fern Wendel and Albert McCabe of Montrose, South Dakota, and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Laurenson of Vermillion, South Dakota.
