Funeral services for Dewey J. Jacobs, 73, of rural Hawarden were held on Tuesday afternoon, August 24th, in Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Reverend O.F. Pittack in charge of the service. The organist was Mrs. William F. Hill, and Mrs. Charles Pfaffle was the soloist. Casket bearers were Walter Wendel, Clarence Wendel, Earl Jacobs, Ray Jacobs, Robert Jacobs, and James Jacobs, nephews of the deceased. Interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery with the Dow Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Jacobs was one of twelve children born to Louis Jacobs and wife, Amelia, nee Andersen, born Northwest of Hawarden on January 23, 1898, and was baptized in Trinity Lutheran Church on October 7, 1906, by the Reverend W.C. Rehwaldt, first resident pastor of the local congregation. On May 20, 1956 he was confirmed in St. Peter Lutheran Church in Madison, South Dakota by the Reverend Ralph Christopherson.

The deceased spent most of his life on a farm, and was engaged in farming in various localities in this community and also in South Dakota. Since 1935 he farmed on the home place, northeast of this city.

He entered the Sioux Center Hospital on August 14th, where he died a week later.

Preceding him in death, besides his parents, were five brothers: Harry, Howard, Louis, Albert, and William; three sisters: Elsie, Agnes, and Harriet; and a number of nephews and nieces.

Survivors include: One brother, Peter of Northfield, Minnesota; two sisters, Anna Wendel of Montrose, South Dakota, and Mary Wendel of DeSmet, South Dakota; sixteen nephews and sixteen nieces.
