Margaret Lehnertz, 99, long-time resident of Redmond Oregon, died peacefully on July 15, in Remond, surrounded by her children.
Margaret was born Nov. 5 1916, in Alton, the daughter of John and Theresa (Mousel) Konz.
Rosary was recited and a funeral mass was held July 21 at St. Thomas Catholic Church of Redmond.Interment was in Redmond Cemetery. A reception was held following the service at the Redmond Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall.
She was raised on a farm in Alton and went to school there. She loved to tell of horse and buggy days. Following eighth grade she went to work in the Alton community, helping wherever needed.
During World War II she worked as a waitress for a time, and she worked in the shipyards as a certified welder.
Margaret married Wally Lehnertz on Nov. 14, 1945 in Alton, Ia.
The Lehnertzes moved to Redmond in 1947. They bought a farm north of town and began fixing up the house, planting a garden and the flowers she loved so much. Her years in Iowa had prepared her for farm life in Oregon.
She was a homemaker and a great pie baker, winning best of show for her cherry pie at the county fair. She sewed and enjoyed making quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a women with a big heart. Her faith,her family and her friends were her greatest treasures.
Margaret was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and St. Thomas Altar Society and a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the VFW Auxiliary.
She was an active member in the groups and held many offices and worked on several committees. She was a VFW Auxiliary secretary for 22 years. She was Catholic Daughter of the Years for Court 2041 in 1996. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Newton Pump until she retired.
Margaret loved to travel. Her favorite place to visit was Iowa, where she could visit with friends and relatives and held dear the memories from growing up there.
Survivors include four children; Don (Mary) Lehnertz, Sharon Allison and Dle (LuAnn) Lehnertz. all of Redmond, Ore. and Clara (Paul) Cook of Clackamas, Ore. 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, her sisers ini-law Agnes Konz and Delores Konz of Alton and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Joan, her parents and her husband Wally.Her seven brothers, Ferdinand, Melvin, Cletus, Francis, Bob, Ron, and Pete Konz and sisters Leola Ricke and Viola Krier.
