From the Rock Valley Bee, February 6, 1925:

BROTHER OF MRS. PFEFFERLE MEETS WITH FATAL ACCIDENT

C. W. Kessler, a former Iowa boy who worked around here for several years and will be remembered by many residents of this vicinity, met with a fatal accident a few days ago at Corpus Christi, Texas. While doing post work, the side supports of a railway gave way, causing thirty tons of piling to roll down the embankment, burying six of the working men underneath.

Two of the men were killed instantly, C. W. Kessler and J. W. Hill. They were so badly crushed that they were beyond recognition. The other four men were rescued alive, but they are not expected to live.

Mr. Kessler is a brother of Mrs. W. D. Pfefferle, residing northeast of Rock Valley. He leaves a wife and three small children besides other relatives to mourn his untimely death.
