Douglas Dean Korver 73 died Sat. July 2 due to lung cancer in Mesa, AZ.
A clebration of Life will be held Sunday Nov. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Sunland Springs Village Auditorium in Mesa.
He grew up in Orange City, and graduated from Orange City High School and attended Northwestern College. He transferred to University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls where he earned a degree in industrial arts and minors in math and physical education. He earned the MVP award at the 1965 Pecan Bowl and was named to the UNI football Hall of Fame.
He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons and later played for the Norfolk Neptunes and Omaha Mustangs.
He taught school and coached football in Council Bluffs and Charles City, IA.
In 1964 he married Bonnie Vis. They had two children Clinton and Juliana.
In 1973 Doug and his partner Bill Wohlers formed Red Lind Vending. For 25 years the business supplied and serviced video games, jukeboxes and pool tables throught northeastern Iowa.
On Sept 8, 1984 Doug married Carold Grant in Mason City. They retired in 1998 and moved to Mesa.
Doug enjoyed woodworking, trap shooting, traveling, playing tennis and card games. He was a stoic pillar of strength and a great sense of humor and heart of a lion. He loved his family and friends and will be missed by all.
Doug is survived by his loving wife Carol of 31 years, children Dr. Clinton D. (Miriam) Korver of Atherton, CA; Juliana B. Korver of San Diego, CA; four step-grandchildren and nine grandchildren
He is preceded in death by his parents Marion and Helen Korver.
