From the Alton Democrat, December 27, 1924, Rock Valley news:

Mrs. Peter Van Beek passed away at her home in Rock Valley Monday Dec. 15, after a illness of about a week. Mrs. Van Beek was born in Holland May 2, 1858, and had attained the age of 66 years 7 months 13 days. She spent her [early] life in Holland where she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage to Peter Van Beek. To this union seven children were born, one dying in infancy, the other six remain.

The Van Beek family came to America 32 years ago having lived at Alton, Hospers and Sioux Center, then moving to this vicinity where they have resided the past 25 years. Mrs. Van Beek was a woman who was respected by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by a host of friends and her family. The children are Nick of Inwood, Gerrit, Mase, Mrs. Seibert Kolman and Mrs. John De Boer all of Rock Valley and Mrs. Albert Ten Klay of Archer.

Funeral services were held at the home at 11:30 A.M. and at the Ref. church at 2:00 P.M. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of a host of friends.

Her death certificate has Averdina Van Beek, wife of Peter; born May 2, 1858 in Holland; parents Klass Plate and Petronella Bouwman; occupation house keeper; died December 15, 1924 at 7 p.m. in Rock Valley, where she had resided 26 years; cause, angina pectoris; buried in Rock Valley Cemetery.
