George Gerdes Died Monday
Had Resided in Sioux county for forty two years
Farmed in Washington Township for many years, leaves Widow and Three sisters.

George Gerdes a long time and highly respected citizen of Sioux County, passed away at his home in Hawarden at 3:30 Monday morning from heart trouble. His health began to fail about a year ago and he had been bedfast most of the time during the past several months and for several weeks preceding his death his condition had been considered critical.

Funeral services will be held at the home at 1:30 this afternoon and at the Lutheran church at 2 o'clock, with his pastor, Rev. George Steinkamp, in charge. Interment will be made in the cemetery at Ireton.

George Gerdes was born at EJwardsville, IL., March 6, 1874, so that at the time of his death he had reached the age of 57 years and 3 days. He grew to young manhood in Illinois where he was baptized in infancy and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Morrisonville, IL., April 15, 1888. In 1889 he came to Sioux county with his brother, John Gerdes, and they located on a farm in Washington Township two miles northeast of the present Mc Nally station, where they farmed in partnership for twenty-six years when they purchased a farm in the same neighborhood, which they operated for four years.

He moved to Hawarden in 1920 and built a new home in this city. For the following eight years he was employed by Sioux county on road work. On Aug. 15, 1914, he was united in marriage with Mabel Chromister, who survives him. He is also survived by three sisters, Misses Rebecca, Hattie and Marie Gerdes. His brother, John Gerdes, preceded, him in death Feb. 6, 1930. Mr. Gerdes was a man who enjoyed the admiration, confidence and esteem of a wide circle of friends who learned of his death with deep regret and who will join in extending sincerest sympathy to the widow and sisters.
