Mrs. Henry Houtsma, Sr. passed away at the home of her son, John Houtsma near Sheldon on Friday, following an illness of ten weeks. She had attained the age of 79 years and six months.

Daughter of Cornelis Jans Boutsma and Willemke Klases Eisma, she was born in the Barradeel region of Friesland. Wife of Hendrik Houtsma, they were married on April 10, 1880 in Barradeel, Friesland. They immigrated with their children to the United States in 1903, arriving in New York on April 21 aboard the S.S. Rijndam sailing out of Rotterdam. They settled in Orange City, Sioux County, Iowa where their eldest daughter, Willemke (Wilhelmina), was already living.

She is survived by the following children: Mrs. R. Faber of Orange City, Mrs. Henry Addink, Sioux Center, Mrs. Andrew Dykstra, Chicago, Mrs. Ben Mulder, Boyden, Henry Houtsma, Orange City, Neal at Boyden, Harry at Redlands, California, Nick at Hospers, and John of Sheldon.

Funeral services were held at Sheldon on Saturday afternoon with the Reverend Mr. H. Colenbrander officiating. Interment was made in the Orange City Cemetery.
