Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 P.M. in the First Reformed Church of Hospers for Nicholas Houtsma, who died Tuesday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, following a short illness. Reverend G. Doeter of Orange City officiated at the service and burial was in the Hospers Cemetery.

Born July 19, 1896, to Klaas Houtsma in Friesland, Holland. Son of Hendrik Houtsma and Jeltje Boutsma Houtsma. He immigrated to America from Sexbierrum, Friesland, Holland arriving on April 21, 1903 with his parents and siblings. Husband of Angeline (Riddering) Houtsma. She preceded him in death November 28, 1930. He was a veteran of World War I.

Survivors include two sons, Howard of Sheldon, Louis of Downey, California; a brother, John of Sheldon, three sisters, Mrs. Lyda Mulder of Sheldon, Mrs. Dora Dykstra of Chicago and Mrs. Elizabeth Addink of Sioux Center.

Mrs. Scott Sneller and Mrs. Ray Smit of Boyden sang “Beyond the Sunset” at the service accompanied by Mrs. J.J. Riemersma. Pallbearers were Clarence Berding, Horton Jacobsma, Neal Boterhoek, Mike Verschoor James Huygens and James Full.
