Daniel John Pick, 84, of Remsen, Iowa died Tuesday, June 20th, 2017 at Unity Point Health St. Luke’s in Sioux City, Iowa surrounded by his family and loved ones after a short illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am on Friday, June 23rd, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Deacon Rick Roder assisting. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, IA. Graveside military honors will be conducted by the Post 3328 VFW and Post 220 American Legion of Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-7pm Thursday. There will be a rosary at 5 pm by the Knights of Columbus immediately following will be a vigil prayer service all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen. Condolences may be sent online to fischfh.com.

Daniel was born on November 25th, 1932, to Alphonse and Erma (Thiel) Pick in rural Remsen, Iowa. Daniel was educated at Union Consolidated Public School and graduated in 1951. He then attended Westmar College and Chicago Institute of Architectural Drawing. Dan enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 went to Germany during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge in 1955.

Daniel married Carol Jean Pottebaum on August 24th, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, Iowa. The couple resided in Remsen. Dan worked at the Remsen Farmers Coop since 1955 through various departments and in 1974 became manager of the Remsen Farmers Coop until retirement in 1996. He also sold real estate under Dan Pick Real Estate throughout his life.

Carol Jean passed away on March 8th, 2013.

Dan was very active. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, playing cards, storytelling, sports, watching Iowa and Iowa State athletics, and St. Mary’s and Remsen-Union athletics. He enjoyed vacationing at Okoboji for the summer and in Texas for the winter.

Dan was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Grateful for having shared his life are his 6 children, Roger (Paula), Harlan, IA, and children Ryan (Amy), Stephanie (Greg), and Katie (Brian; Mike (Melinda), Ankeny, IA, and children Robbie, Angie, Mikayla (fiancé Jon) and McKenzie; Ray (Lori), Ankeny, IA, and children Jeff (Sarah), Nathan (Ashley), Kellie (Ron) and Alison (Ryan); Kevin, Cincinnati, OH, and children Keith, Michelle (Shaun), Doug (fiancé Colleen) and Crystal; Linda (Damon) Alvey, Scotland, SD, and children Ashley (fiancé Kevin) and Amber; Brian (Lori), Ashland, NE and children Anna and Andrew. 13 Great-Grandchildren. Sister, Doris Kolker Remsen, Iowa. Sister-in-laws Nancy Pick, LeMars, IA, Jan Pick, Sioux City, IA, Irma Dreckman, Pipestone, MN.

Those waiting in heaven are his wife Carol Jean, Brothers Glen, Joe, Jerry, Cliff, Sisters, Vera Ann in infancy, Ruth and Vera May, Parents Alphonse and Erma Pick and Father-in-Law John Pottebaum and Mother-in-Law Susan (Mousel) Pottebaum. Numerous brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Casket bearers will be Ryan Pick, Rob Pick, Jeff Pick, Nathan Pick, Keith Pick, Doug Pick and Andrew Pick.

Honorary Bearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus.
