Rock Rapids, IA: Marie Postma, 87, of Rock Rapids, formerly of Doon, Iowa, died Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Rock Rapids Health Center. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 12 at 10:30 AM at Doon United Reformed Church with Rev. Don Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery of Doon. Visitation, with the family present, will be Sunday, June 11 from 2:30-4:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. 
 
Marie Postma, daughter of John Peter and Maria (Beukhof) DeBruin, was born June 13, 1929 at the family home in Maurice, Iowa. Marie grew up attending Country School in Maurice until the family moved to Alvord, Iowa, where she finished Country School, graduating from the 8th grade. Marie was united in marriage with Gilbert “Gib” Postma on October 13, 1949. Together the couple made their home in Doon until moving to Rock Rapids in 2014. Marie stayed busy raising the couple’s eight children; Rod, Don, Janice, Doug, Glenn, Dwayne, Bud, and Mike. She also worked for 30-plus years cleaning for Valley Manor (Whispering Heights) in Rock Valley.
 
Marie had a love for people, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved shopping for and giving Christmas and birthday gifts for each and every one of them. She also enjoyed coffee clubs with friends, co-workers and family. Marie was an excellent flower gardener and cook. She will be fondly remembered as “Cinnamon Roll Grandma”. Marie enjoyed sports. She loved to attend her son’s fastpitch softball games and she was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves. Marie was a member of the Doon First Reformed Church.
 
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Gib; 7 children, Rod (Joella) Postma of Doon, Janice Den Besten of Rock Rapids, Doug (LaVonne) Postma of Rock Valley, Glenn (Rhonda) Postma of Doon, Dwayne (Sharon) Postma of Rock Rapids, Bud (Kelly) Postma of Madison, South Dakota, and Mike Postma of Huron, South Dakota; daughter-in-law, Lorna Postma of Hull; 22 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Helene Niemeyer of Doon.
 
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Maria; son, Donald Postma; father and mother-in-law, Marc and Coba Postma; and siblings, Jen (Hank) Teunissen, Clara (Dan) DeVries, Tom (Martha) DeBruin, Albert (Henrietta) DeBruin, Pete DeBruin, Jake DeBruin, Garrett DeBruin, Pete (Irene) Rietsma, Heinie (Etta) DeBruin, and infant sister, Marie DeBruin.
