Mr. Russell Van Gorp, age 96, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, June 27, at 11:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Scott Bonestroo will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation with the family present will be prior to the service, beginning at 10:00am, at the funeral home.

Russell was born on November 14, 1920, in rural Orange City. He was the oldest child of Edward and Gertrude (Muilenburg) Van Gorp. He spent his entire life in the Orange City area..

On June 15, 1943, he married Mildred Kleinhesselink at Orange City. They made their home in the Orange City area, where he first worked at the Phillips 66 Gas Station and then farmed. Later he operated Van Gorp Trucking. In 2012, they became residents of the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City, and then he transferred to Prairie Ridge. “Millie” passed away on March 3, 2013, in Orange City, after more than sixty-nine years of marriage.

He was a member of the Alton Reformed Church.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and their wives, Howard and Frances Van Gorp and Lloyd and Hendrene Van Gorp; and a brother-in-law, Peter Bos.

Survivors include two brothers and their wives, Donald and Alvina Van Gorp, of Montevideo, Minnesota; and Perry and Joan Van Gorp, of Sioux Center; and a sister, Esther Bos, of Orange City. His many nephews and nieces will remember their skipperkey dog.

Memorials may be directed to the Sioux City Gospel Mission.
