Hildebrandt "Henry" Hoogterp, 85, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Sherman at Sheldon at 5:45 p.m. Monday following a complication of diseases. Due to his advanced age,

Mr. Hoogterp has been ailing for several months, and for the past year has suffered almost total blindness. Prior to their arrival at the Pioneer Home in October, 1943, Mr. and Mrs. Hoogterp were Hospers residents, and members of the Presbyterian Church there.

Mr. Hoogterp was born at Gasterland, Vriesland, the Netherlands on April 7, 1859. He
came to America with his wife, Sijke "Sadie" Katsma Hoogterp and one child, and settled at Hospers, where he did carpenter
work.

Four more children were born to this union. They are Fred and Broer Hoogterp of Rapid City, South Dakota, Hans Hoogterp of Sioux City, Mrs. Fred Douma of Alton and Mrs. J. Poppen of Hospers.

He re-married, his wife being Mrs. Anna De Weerd. Two daughters were born to them, Mrs. Herman Hofmeyer of Primghar, and Mrs. Ralph Romberg of Hynes, California.

Mr. Hoogterp married for the third time, Kate Tuinstra following the decease of the second wife, Mrs. Anna Vander Weerd Hoogterp. His children and wife survive him.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:30 in the Pioneer Home with the Reverend H. Colenbrander officiating. The body was taken Wednesday to the John Sherman home at Sheldon where funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m., after which there will be a service in the Presbyterian Church in Hospers at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Eggink in charge.

Interment will be made in the Hospers Cemetery.
