Funeral services for Ralph Hoogland, Sr., 89, who died Saturday were held at 1:30 Wednesday at the Barnard Funeral Home, Reverend Le Roy Nattress of Orange City officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton.

Mrs. Ralph Gregg, Jr., sang “Rock of Ages” and “In the Garden” with Mrs. Hal Shoemaker as accompanist. Casket bearers were Ralph Hoogland, Jr., Rodney Hoogland, Elmer Hoogland, William Torwelle, James Hoogland and Vernon Hoogland.

Mr. Hoogland, who made his home with his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Hoogland, south of town, was born in The Netherlands May 28, 1869.

He came to Iowa in 1889 and soon after married Miss Margaret Ludens. They made their home in Orange City where he followed the carpenter trade.

In 1901, the family moved to Yakima, Washington, where they resided a number of years before returning to farm near Ireton.

A father of ten children, he was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter and four sons.

Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. William Torwelle, Sr., of Hawarden and Mrs. Henry Brafhart of Mallard, Iowa; three sons, Walter of Ellsworth, Minnesota, Andrew of Ireton and Ted of Orange City; 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
